South Park residents like to have fun and there is a variety of attractions for the whole family to enjoy.

Leisure-time and educational activities are abundant in South Park. Residents and visitors alike can choose from any number of museums, public galleries, theaters, historic sites, and parks.

Public Institutions
With a council-manager form of government, South Park's voters elect a seven-member city council to act as the city's legislative and policy-making body. The council is composed of the mayor, elected at-large by the voters, and six representatives elected from each of the city's six geographical districts. The council selects a professionally trained city manager who carries out the programs and policies adopted by the council.
Education

South Park students have access to a wide variety of educational options in one of the largest and most diversified school systems in the state. South Park has 10 public schools with a student population of about 6,000 students and 12private and parochial schools for elementary students as well as 5 public middle schools, 3 public high schools, two parochial high schools and one private high school.


South Park Public Schools are governed by a seven-member Board of Education. Board meetings are open to the public. The Board meets on the second and fourth Mondays of the month and schedules meetings on other Monday evenings as needed.

South Park eSchool provides educational options and services for home school and homebound students, kindergarten through 5th grade by offering a core online curriculum program that meets state standards. On February 24, 2001, the South Park board of Education approved the expansion of South Park eSchool to include middle and high school levels. The South Park eSchool also provides online teacher advice and mentoring, as well as enrichment and extension activities.

South Park also offers a rich variety of educational opportunies for adult students. Several universities and colleges are located in near South Park.

    * Population of South Park CDP is 55,277.
    * Estimated average household income is $99,102.
    * 78.9% of the population holds a college degree, and 48.8% hold graduate/professional degrees.
    * Median housing value $396,400.

South Park is home to more than 2,800 businesses with a downtown workforce that exceeds 33,000. The services industry is the largest employer, with some 1,263 firms and more than 16,000 employees. Retail trade and finance/insurance/real estate are second and third, respectively.
